RMUS Solidifies Technical Team Adding Further Expertise in Energy, Geospatial and Training
CENTERVILLE, UT – February 14, 2022. Rocky Mountain Unmanned Systems (RMUS), has deepened its technical capabilities with the recent additions of industry veterans Jim Disser and Lane Veillon in oil and gas, Akram Afifi in geospatial and Donnell Ray in technical training.
Jim brings more than 25 years of non-destructive testing (NDT) sales experience, primarily focused on remote visual inspection, ultrasonic and infrared. For most of his career, he’s worked in the heart of the Gulf Coast petrochemical complex, based in Houston, representing inspection market leaders Olympus, Waygate, GE Inspection Robotics and FLIR.
Jim combines his in-depth understanding of the issues faced by oil and gas inspectors with the unique solutions offered by RMUS. Specifically, how to conduct NDT more safely by using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground robots, like Boston Dynamics' Spot, together with traditional NDT methods, to keep inspectors out of dangerous situations.
Lane has been operating remotely piloted aircraft since 1978 and his experience spans across fixed-wing turbine, piston and multi-engine powered aircraft as well as rotary wing aircraft of various sizes. He began his commercial UAV career in 2012 when he successfully completed a proof of concept for Chicago Bridge & Iron.
Lane is focused on reducing and eliminating confined space entry by humans into dangerous environments like boilers, reactors, pressure vessels, process piping and process storage tanks. To date, he has accumulated more than 600 flights in the last few years and combined flight time of over 7,000 hours. Lane is also the vice-chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ code committee for inspections of small unmanned aerial systems and robotics.

With more than 15 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, land surveying, and geomatics engineering research and development, Akram has a strong background in land surveying, laser scanning and remotely piloted aircraft. Akram’s experience in civil engineering, both design and construction, led him to several developments in different levels of prototyping, modeling and data fusion for land surveying, aerial photogrammetry and Lidar, and terrestrial scanning.
Akram works with customers to optimize the end-user workflow throughout the data lifecycle to achieve an efficient, consistent, and precise field to finish project deliverables.
Donnell is a retired United States Army aviator with seven years of unmanned operations and safety experience in the private sector. Driven by a desire to coach and mentor, he takes pride in providing the best learning experience possible. As the Training and Development Coordinator at RMUS, he creates and delivers the highest quality curriculum for both public and private partners. Donnell is currently developing training for our government and military partners across multiple emerging platforms.
